Project 52 – Week 11 – March 21st – March 27th, 2010

Since Life happens whether you want it to or not, it happened all at once for me and I was not able to capture any photos for weeks 9 and 10, I am hoping that the photos for week 11 will make up for it. I was on my way to Belmond, Ia to spend the weekend with my extended family, as we got closer we noticed that there was a big fire. We discussed whether it was in town or north of town, as we got closer we realized it was in town. We bypassed Gram and Gramps house and drove straight into town to locate the blaze. It was a training exercise in which the Belmond Fire Department had started and controlled the fire in the old Hill Motel (recently called the Cozy Inn) to help train and build the skills of the firefighters. It was a sight to see and smell and feel. An experience for all the senses.

Project 52 – Week 8 – February 21st – February 27th, 2010

One of my goals is to really learn how to use my cameras manual settings, and while I am still working in the program mode it was a huge step from auto to program. My goal is to be completely manual by the end of this project.

Project 52 – Week 7 – February 14th – February 20th, 2010

Clouds make me happy, and what a great day it was to capture them, in addition I also spent some time in light room playing with color and adjustments, and I am pretty happy with the way the came out.

I HEART FACES – Fix It Fridays

Since I wasn’t able to participate in the last two theme entries, I made sure I found the time to participate in my first ever Fix it Friday. For those of who don’t know about I Heart Faces its a great website that has challenged me to become a better photographer and editor. Every week they have a theme challenge to submit one photo for judging and then on Fridays they provide a photo and ask people to fix it, hence “Fix it Fridays” And this is my first Fix It!

Project 52 - Week 5 – January 31 – February 6 – Be My Valentine

During week 5 I took the opportunity to take some pictures of my babies to make Valentine Cards with, in doing this my main goal was to find the best place in the house for natural light and to minimize harsh shadows, while I am not completely happy with the location in the house the pictures were shot in I do think I was able to capture some great personality of them. I also used this week to experiment more with textures, actions and presets in both Photoshop and Lightroom.

Project 52 - Week 4 – January 24 – 30, 2010

Week 4 was kind of a crazy week, but I was able to squeeze in some time to attend the last home wrestling meet, and what better chance to work on photographing a sports event, easier said than done, I think I need to invest in an external flash. What I did learn was I have a whole lot more to learn about shooting indoor sports.

I Heart Faces – Week 4 – What's on my Hand?

The theme for Week 4 over at I Heart Faces is texture, I wasn’t sure I had some pictures that captured texture all on their own so I decided what a great time to learn some Photoshop and Lightroom skills. It just so happens that I found a picture with texture in it (the bubbles) and added some interesting texture through editing (the additional texture was provided by Paul Grand on Flickr). The picture is of my Jojo in the bathtub and discovering the bubbles on her hand!
