I Heart Faces – Week 4 – What's on my Hand?

The theme for Week 4 over at I Heart Faces is texture, I wasn’t sure I had some pictures that captured texture all on their own so I decided what a great time to learn some Photoshop and Lightroom skills. It just so happens that I found a picture with texture in it (the bubbles) and added some interesting texture through editing (the additional texture was provided by Paul Grand on Flickr). The picture is of my Jojo in the bathtub and discovering the bubbles on her hand!

Project 52 – Week 3 January 17- 23rd

Week 3 turned out to be a great week for taking some photos although most of the state would disagree. We started out with thick fog, turning to freezing fog, which in turn ended up as freezing rain. Although I was not able to get out after the freezing rain I was able to capture what I feel are some spectacular photos during the thick fog and after the freezing fog. Enjoy!

I Heart Faces - Week 3 - JoAn and Joanna

This weeks theme is We are Family and while artistically it isn’t the best photo, I really wanted to show how proud my Grandmother-in-law is to be with her Great Granddaughter, whom we named after her.

Project 52 Week 2 – January 10 – 16th, 2010

The following set of pictures was taken while my Husband and I were over at a friends house helping to clean the ice out of her gutters. I wanted to work on capturing action shots so I   went out side and let her dog Jade run wild while I tried to capture her personality and according to her owner Daniele I captured her personality perfectly.

This last picture was taken of all the ice pouring from her gutters before we removed it.

Not to shabby for a newbie!

Yesterday I decided that my task for the day was to learn a new skill/process in Photoshop. I taught myself about actions, what they are, how to

dow

nload and install them and also how to use them. Here are some pictures that I edited!

iheartfaces Challenge - Week 2 Best Face

I stumbled upon a website (www.iheartfaces.com) tonight that seems will be of great benefit to me as a budding photographer. They hold weekly contests with a theme, this weeks theme is "Best Face". It was very hard to decide which photo to use. I went with this one of my son Ben and his first play date in the snow. Along with Project 52 that I am currently working on I am going to spend the year entering photos with each weekly theme to continue to push myself and grow as a photographer.Poor Ben was so excited to get out and play in the snow for the first time, however he was not a fan of falling and not being able to get up! Now that he has been out in it every time the door opens he bolts out the door......even in his barefeet!

Week 1 continues of Project 52 January 3 - 9th

The first week of the year we started off with a lot of snow from 2009 and received a bunch more at the same time. There was not a better time to get out and photograph some snow then the first week. It was bitterly cold and the wind howled but I got out there and enjoyed every minute of it, learned that auto focus doesn't work when the snow is blowing so I really worked on my manual focus skills. Not only was there beautiful snow everywhere but the icicles were in abundance as well. The following pictures were taken here in my hometown of Indianola, IA.

365 Project Revised to Project 52

For those who don't know, photographers sometimes commit to a 365 project to help them get familiar with their equipment or software. I am truly interested in doing this project, however don't really have the time to commit to everyday since my hands are pretty full with my 1 and 1/2 year old twins, so I am going to accomplish this as Project 52. That is right, I will commit to taking photos at least once a week and then posting some of them for review. My goal is to learn how to use my camera and equipment better as well as learning Photoshop and Lightroom in the process. This industry is ever changing and I consistently love to learn and try new things, Thank you for following my progress in this project.

Week 1
January 3 - 9th
The set of photos (including the one above) were taken in my in-laws back yard as I tested out the new lens I bought.
